After evaluating more than 5,700 submissions for our Nameless Mage contest (we meticulously reviewed every single entry!), we’re thrilled to reveal our selected winner.
Determining the ultimate victor proved exceptionally difficult. We collaborated with key members from The Elder Scrolls Online Development Team, facing the daunting task of selecting just one champion from countless inspiring contributions.
The triumphant submission featured not merely an inventive and distinctive name for our Dark Elf mage, but also incorporated a compelling narrative that our Content Design team can smoothly weave into The Elder Scrolls Online universe. This character concept presents a distinctive perspective, coupled with extensive understanding of Oblivion realms. He will certainly become an indispensable companion when you venture into Molag Bal’s domain, Coldharbour.

Malkur Valos emerged as the sole offspring of Dunmer sorcerer Maros Valos. Following Malkur’s mother perishing during delivery, Maros conjured a Golden Saint entity to safeguard and nurture his son. When Maros fell in a magical confrontation, Malkur’s Daedric guardian fulfilled her pledge to the newborn by transporting him to Lord Sheogorath’s domain.
As descendant of a formidable Dunmer spellcaster, Malkur possesses innate magical aptitude and exhibits the characteristic suspicion and condescending disposition of his people. Through instruction from Aureal beings, Malkur developed unshakable convictions regarding honor, responsibility, and commitment to his promises. The unavoidable impact of the Shivering Isles infused his methodologies with an element of capriciousness.
Ultimately, Malkur felt compelled to revisit his homeland Tamriel, where his abilities, integrity, and originality rapidly attracted Vanus Galerion’s notice. When Malkur pledged allegiance to Mages Guild tenets and goals, these foundations became the immutable motivation guiding all his endeavors, though casual observers might not immediately recognize this dedication.
Gavis Velas, who perished (3E 427) while retaliating for his brother Ovis’ death, represents a later generation of Malkur Valos’ lineage.
